As an education based student tour operator, we provide life-changing programs and field trips with a strong emphasis on the sciences, history, cultural engagement and the promotion of international friendships.
We offer multi-day programs in Western and Central Canada as well as South East Asia. As our mantra suggests, “Where education and adventure meet!” our focus lies in experiential education. For 13 years we acted as sole Canadian partner to the world renown People to People, Student Ambassador Programs. Through them, we safely traveled over 11,000 students. With Nomad's Best in Class ranking (Net Promoter Scoring), teachers and students continue to praise Nomad’s creative approach to experiential education.
What's New with Nomad Education? We have been working closely with our Aboriginal partner Camp Acxulaxw to examine the impact the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Recommendations are having on Canadian curriculum. With the new curriculum of First Nations topics on Reconciliation emerging, Nomad Travel and Camp Acxulaxw will collaborate to offer a new field Trip called THE SHARED TRAIL. With both Core Competencies and Big Ideas embraced the field trip harmonizes with the themes and intent of the new educational framework (Grade 5 through Grade 12).
Nomad’s extensive student travel experience combined with Camp Acxulawx’s curriculum based content make THE SHARED TRAIL field trip an ideal resource for BC teachers as well as a rousing educational experience for students.
Safety is our number one priority. 14 years of safe travel experience combined with our tried and tested safety protocols allow us to keep you safe while traveling. We are also very particular about the safety procedures of our vendors and partners, from coach safety to white water rafting; we go the extra distance to ensure maximum security and safety are met. Additionally, we secure our student travelers with the best insurance coverage in the industry.
Nomad has been providing safe and exceptional programming for over 14 years. The experience harvested by thousands of hours on the road and in the field, as well as the meaningful friendships garnered with our travelers and vendors make our programs a huge success. With Nomad it is the extra attention to details that make the biggest difference. We strive for excellence, so you and your group can get out of the classroom and into the field to have an unparalleled travel experience.
We offer wonderfully illustrated workbooks that are specific to each program. They are designed as a supplement to the activities being experienced each day. For example, the students might study the Glacier chapter from the workbook in the morning, then solidify the lesson being taught, by walking on the Athabasca Glacier later that afternoon. Themes covered in the workbook include geology, paleontology, ecology, anthropology and Canadian industry. The workbook also has a strong cultural component with historical sections on Canada's first nations tribes, French Canada and an Anabaptist community known as the Hutterites.
At Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, our students prepared four hundred tipi poles and donated them to the local Blackfoot Nation. These poles were in turn used in the tipis during the sacred Sun Dance Ceremony.
Our students have worked with the Department of Fisheries in Bamfield on an Abalone preservation project on the Sarita River.
Plastics and fossil based polymers are having a devastating effect on ocean ecology. In participation with the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo, BC, our groups have removed literally tons of harmful plastics and litter from the sensitive coastlines of Vancouver Island.
At Nomad Travel contributing to responsible tourism is a priority. Our Earth Steward Project promotes the model of sustainable tourism. Through activities such as recycling, composting and Moop (Matter Out Of Place) collection, etc., the students actively give back to the communities they pass through. Perhaps more importantly, the project instills the need for responsibility tourism now and into their future travels.
